Artist Name: Wazimbo
Genre: African Pop, Marrabenta
Country: Mozambique

Artist Bio:

Wazimbo, one of the great voices of Mozambique, developed his talents with Orquestra Marrabenta Star in the '80s and '90s. His trademark song, "Nwahulwana," was featured in the film The Pledge with Jack Nicholson. The lyrics to this beautiful ballad mean, "You are a night bird, moving after dark from bar to bar."

Although this first song is moody and thoughtful, the rest of his work with Orquestra Marrabenta Star makes you want to get up and dance. With this recording you are witness to a classic African dance band at its best.

"Wazimbo and the Orchestra Marrabenta Star de Mozambique deliver the excitement of a classic African big band. Rough, lively, and full of glorious vocal work and surprising grooves." (Banning Eyre) —Courtesy Calabash Music
