Artist Name: Nayim Alal
Genre:
African Pop
Country:
Algeria,
Mauritania
Artist Bio:
Ranging from the opening track, "Viva El Polisario," with its electric guitar, almost Indian percussion and African chant/Islamic call vocals, to "Canta Conmigo," a Western-style pop song, to the glorious acoustic "Que Importan Las Penas," this disc contains enough diversity in itself to be worthy of individual issue.
Of special note is electric guitarist Nayim Alal, who gets in his best work here: beautiful trills and discordant double-stops. Alal is a superb guitar player that plays the drums and the accordion as well. His take on the traditional "Bleida," with a relentless stop-and-start riff, dynamic bass (complete with MIDI enhanced sub-sonic chordal stabs) never lets go of its Arabic origin.
