Sidi Mohamed Camara, popularly known as "Joh," was born in Bamako, Mali, West Africa. Surrounded by great artists and musicians as a child, Joh started traditional dance and drumming at the age of five.

Joh comes from the Camara family; his ancestors ruled Mande society for hundreds of years. Joh's mother, Fanta Kamissoko, is a well know jeli or griot and has influenced him in the art of music and dance.

Joh is one of the leading dancers and drummers in Mali. He has toured West Africa and presented hundreds of programs with his award-winning dance companies: Troupe Sewa, Troupe Mande, Troupe du District de Bamako and Percussion Fabla. As chief choreographer of Troupe Mande and Troupe Sewa, Joh has created some of the most renowned and competitive troupes in the world.

His music combines original compositions with traditional Malian songs and rhythms. His new recording showcases traditional rhythms as well as Joh's original compositions. Joh currently resides in the Boston area and is continually sharing his knowledge of traditional Mande society.
