Anastacia

Anastácia is a singer and songwriter from Brazil. While studying in Brazil she began to play at several clubs in and around Fortaleza until Anastácia and her partner Zé Eugênio decided to leave their home Fortaleza to move to Berlin, following the inviting of their friend Iberé. With him, being an artist, they founded the Brazilian cultural center Quilimbo. From 1991 to 1996 she studied singing at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin.

Besides playing with Zé Eugênio as a duo she works with bigger casts and is experimenting with different music styles, including jazz and funk. But she particularly likes to discover the rhythms of the northeastern part of her home, including baiao, maracutu and samba, which can also be found on her debut album, Lumerê Lumerá. —Courtesy Calabash Music
