The ¡Globalquerque! festival, New Mexico's annual celebration of world music and culture, recently announced its 2006 lineup. The festival's main event will be held September 23—24 at the National Hispanic Cultural in Center in Albuquerque, NM, and will feature an array of local and international acts spread over three stages.

Now in its second year, ¡Globalquerque! has grown from a one-day event into a weeklong series of statewide concerts and other programming. In addition to the main event, the festival will offer a weeklong music film program at The Guild theater in Albuquerque, a "Global Village" containing food and crafts from around the world, and school programs and concerts across New Mexico.

Artists who have been confirmed for the 2006 festival include Punjabi ghazal singer Kiran Ahluwalia, Electro-Tejano fusionists Charanga Cakewalk, Finnish roots group Gjallarhorn, French manouche swingsters Les Yeux Noirs and Zimbabwean legend Oliver Mtukudzi.
