Album Reviews
|
Review:
This album starts off with the amazing blind songer/songwriter Beti Kamanga, strumming his bangwe zither as though he invented rock and roll. The date is 1950 and he never ventured beyond his beloved shores of Lake Malawi. The bangwe tosayd is as good as extinct, young people play the guitar instead. Other instruments played here which are hardly played anymore are the one dtringed karigo lute, the jubu bow, the kalimba, and the extraordinary malipenga music - a small big band of bourd kazoos with drums.
