Review:
One facet of mbira music from Zimbabwe has recently become well-known around the world -- the music of the mbira dza vadzimu of the Zezuru Shona, who live around the capital Harare. But it is not the only type of mbira or indeed the only musical instrument in Zimbabwe! On this album the versatile mbira dza vaNdau of the Ndau people is heavily featured, the almost extinct chizambi mouth bows, the njari mbira and karimba of the Shona, ngano story-songs, the mulanji flute, the thunderous matepe mbiras of the Sena Tonga people, and their wonderful drumming and panpipers.
