Review:
The latest project by the trombone master Craig Harris brings together a fine selection of American jazz players (Al McDowell, Kelvyn Bell, Tony Lewis) with the master gypsy musicians of Turkey, led by Barbaros Erkase. On their debut album 'Istanbul,' Craig Harris and The Nation of Imagination travels over so much terrain that it's almost mind-blowing. Calling it "jazz" makes sense, of course, but by the time this album is over you will have heard Gypsy music, soul, rap, reggae, hard rock, folk music, you name it.
