Review:
Just like traditional singer, and althought she is not actually descended from a familly of azmari, Asnaqètch Wèrqu has had to brave the same jaudiced eye of conventional opinion before attaining universal recognition from Ethiopians. It was not Asnaqètch's brilliant carreer as an actress but rather her talent for public speaking, accompanied by her krar preferably in a small group, or example at a party among friend. It was indeed not unsual in Ethiopia to invite an azmari or a singer like Asnqètch to join a private party. Singing the praises of a friend, or weaving verses improvised around a theme suggested by the host is the chief skill of any azmari or the like. Asquanètch Wèrqu is the last great singer, story teller and free thinker to carry on the tradition of "poetic jousting". Released in 2004.
