With a mix of styles from rock to reggae, this band has a sound unlike any other band and is accompanied by political poetry.

Navio Negreiro

In the middle of May 1998, Aldo Luyde and Junior Dunham, living in Germany at the time, idealized a project to be developed in the musical environment of Bahia — a project which would engage in the social and political fight of the Brazilian people for better living conditions and that would be committed to the quality of music rather than commercial success.

Once in Bahia, Aldo and Junior met up with old friends and launched not only a band but also a musical community called a Neoquilombo Musical. The Neoquilombo musical is a solid ground for the black Brazilian culture.

The Navio Negreiro band emerged and was, in its early days, very influenced by reggae. One of Lamprionicos' founding members, Luciano Vasconcelos, joined Navio Negreiro as their music director.

With Luciano on board it was possible for the band to continue to improve their music and mix a variety of styles. Thus developing the unique sound that is Navio Negreiro.

Within an ocean of many cultural influences, Navio Negreiro is steering through a musical context. Music, poetry and conscientiousness all in one, bringing on a gigantic wave of optimism towards the band.
