Manuel Monestel is one to watch. Co-founder of the Nueva Canción movement in Costa Rica along with Luis Enrique, Rubén Pagura, Bernal Monestel, Dionisio Cabal and others Monestel's songs weave stories into the rhythms and melodies of the Caribbean.

He was born in San Pedro to a family steeped in musical tradition. At 16 years of age, he began to learn guitar and the music of the '70s — Dylan, Lennon, Serraty and later, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Violeta Parra, Daniel Viglietti, Alfredo Zitarrosa, Silvio Rodríguez , Pablo Milanés, Chico Buarque y Caetano Veloso.

He has traveled the world performing, sharing stages with artist such as Pete Seeger, Roberto Carlos, Silvio Rodriguez, Mercedes Sosa, Pablo Milanés, Tito Rodríguez, "El Temucano," Daniel Viglietti, Chico Buarque, Paul Kantner.
