Lungiswa Plaatjes is an exceptional artist who has collaborated on numerous projects, including the smash Max Lasser and Madala Kunene collaboration that became Madamax.
Born in Cape Town in 1973, she began her career at an early age becoming the lead female vocalist with Amampondo, Nelson Mandela's favorite South African band. She has been touring extensively around the world with this outstanding traditional group, and met the producer of her debut album, Tony Thorpe, whilst singing at the baptism of Robert Trunz's son, Nico.
Gifted with an astonishing and haunting voice, she is now a solo artist in her own right. Her brilliant debut album, Ekhaya combines her powerful native singing voice and writing with the contemporary urban sounds that are Tony Thorpe's trademark.
Since her debut album she has recorded a further two albums. In November 2004 Lungiswa gathered in Switzerland with Max Laesser, Madala Kunene and Bernard Sibusiso Mndaweni for the recording of the second album by Madamax.
