Joe Chibangu grew up in Ndola. Having been exposed to public performance by the age of 13 years, he gained experience and performed in churches and schools. By the age of 15 years, he had written his first song.
After finishing Grade 12 in 1994, Joe chose to go into the music industry full time. He went to a musical school in Kitwe where he gained keyboard (piano) skills and also learnt to read and write music. He went on to perform with groups such as Rap Prophets (1996) in Ndola, who were among the first rap groups to gain popularity.
"I then came to Lusaka in 1997 and joined the B-Sharp band. While with the band, I toured around Zambia and performed alongside artists such as Ackim Simukonda, Maureen Lilanda, Maria Nkhoma and others. I had my first engineering experience at Feedback Studio in 1998, and in 1999, I was introduced to Mondo Music by my friend Mainza Chipenzi."
Over the past four years, Joe Chibangu has been the creative force behind many of Zambia's leading musicians. He has produced, performed and collaborated with Danny, Shatel, J.K., Daddy Zemus, Black Muntu, B-Sharp Band, Tribal Cousin, and Tasila Mwale. -Courtesy Calabash Music
