WOMAD Rivermead Announces Lineup for 2006
by Tom PryorWOMAD Rivermead, the United Kingdom's long-running world music festival, announced its initial lineup for the 2006 event on Monday.
The festival, which takes place July 2830, 2006 in the Thames-side town of Reading, will feature over seventy artists and groups from more than thirty countries on seven stages. The initial confirmed lineup includes Mali's Salif Keita and Toumani Diabate & Symmetric Orchestra, Mexico's Los de Abajo, Nigeria's Femi Kuti, Poland's Warsaw Village Band, Morocco's Cherifa, Spain's Enrique Morente and the Spanish Harlem Orchestra from the United States.
WOMAD, founded by Peter Gabriel in 1982, stands for World Of Music and Dance, and sponsors festivals under its banner in various locations around the world, including Cáceres, Spain and Taormina, Sicily. The Rivermead, UK event remains WOMAD's flagship festival and one of the most influential annual world music festivals.
