World Music Institute Releases Fall Schedule

New York Institution Kicks Off 2006 Fall Season With Flamenco, Roma and Persian Classical Events

New York's World Music Institute announced its lineup of concerts and workshops for Fall 2006 earlier this week. The events will include performances from Persian kamancheh master Kayhan Kalhor, Spanish flamenco troupe Son de la Frontera, and Indian slide guitar virtuoso Debashish Bhattacharya (pictured). The season will also offer recurring, multi-part "festivals" featuring different artists on different evenings, such as the NY Gypsy Festival and the Festival of India. Events will be held at different venues around Manhattan, including the Nokia Theatre, NYU's Skirball Center, Symphony Space, Town Hall and Carnegie Hall.

Since its founding in 1985, World Music Institute has built the most comprehensive concert series of traditional music and dance in the United States, and has included music from more than 70 countries and ethnic minorities in Africa, Asia, Oceania, Europe, The Americas and the Middle East as well as regional music from throughout North America. WMI presents more than 60 concerts a year in New York City. For more information on venues and showtimes, consult the World Music Network website.
