Vieux Farka Touré Returns For US Summer Tour

Malian Guitar Slinger Tours In Support Of The Secret

Vieux Farka Touré will be returning to the US for a summer tour in support of his recently-released album, The Secret (Six Degrees).

The Secret, released on May 24, was recorded largely in Mali's Studio Bogolan before being carried to Brooklyn for the final recording sessions and mixdown. The album was produced by Eric Krasno, a versatile guitarist and founder of jazz futurists Soulive. Originally conceived of as an extended family-style project, Krasno says, "Initially we wanted to have a lot of guests, but in the end we narrowed it down to just a few, and that lent itself to the strength of the album." Those guests who did make The Secret's final cut include Dave Matthews, Derek Trucks, John Scofield and Ivan Neville.

For this tour, Vieux's live act has been pared down to a power trio of Vieux on vocals/guitar, Mamadou Sidibe on bass, and drummer/multi-percussionist Tim Keiper. Given his recent accomplishments - collaborating with South Africa's BLK JKS and playing in front of the whole world during the 2010 World Cup last summer in South Africa, 2011 is Vieux Farka Toure's time to shine.
