Check Out Wait's New Anti-War Polemic, "Hell Broke Luce"

Each week Nat Geo Music scours the far reaches of the internet for the coolest new music videos from around the globe.

This week we turn to one of America's last great musical iconoclasts, Tom Waits, who released a new video - after much online anticipation - earlier this week.

For weeks Waits has been teasing fans with gnomic references to a big reveal on August 7th. Was it a tour? A new album? He kept fans guessing.

When the big day arrived, Waits posted this brand new video, for the song "Hell Broke Loose", taken from last year's Bad As Me album (ANTI- records). Co-written by Waits' longtime partner Kathleen Brennan, "Hell Broke Luce" is a blistering anti-war polemic.

Here's what Waits had to say about it in a typically tongue-in-cheek statement that accompanied the video's release:

"As most of you guessed, it's a tour... a tour de force!

"[Director] Matt Mahurin has created an apocalyptic war dream to accompany the song 'Hell Broke Luce.' Kathleen [Brennan] and I envisioned it as an enlightened drill sergeant yelling the hard truths of war to a brand new batch of recruits. The video grew from the gnawing image of a soldier pulling his home, through a battlefield, at the end of a rope.

"I think you will agree, it's uplifting and fun."

See for yourself.
