Nick Cave, Johnny Depp,Chrissie Hynde, Mick Jones And More Team Up With Pogues Frontman For Haiti Relief
Every week Nat Geo Music scours the farthest reaches of the internet to bring you the coolest new videos from around the globe.
This week, in honor of St. Patrick's Day, we're checking in with Ireland's greatest living songwriter and reprobate, Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan.
As it happens, Shane-O has been up to quite a bit lately. In addition to finally getting his famously rotten teeth fixed last fall, he also recently convened some of his celeb friends to record a track to benefit the Haiti Earthquake relief effort.
Released last month, this version of the Screamin' Jay Hawkins classic swamp-rocker "I Put A Spell On You" features vocals from Nick Cave, Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie, the Sex Pistols' Glen Matlock, The Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde, Paloma Faith and Eliza Doolittle. On guitars are James Walbourne, The Clash's Mick Jones and Johnny Depp. Pogues founding member Cait O'Riordan is on bass, and Carwyn Ellis plays Hammond organ and piano. Drums are courtesy of Rob Walbourne.
All the proceeds from the single will go to Irish charity Concern Worldwide to provide assitance to the victims of the tragic Janiuary 12 earthquake that devastated Haiti.
So Happy St. Patrick's day and Pogue Mahone!
And just in case that wasn't Irish enough for ya, here's some of the rare auld stuff from Shane and the lads and some very special guests from back in the day...
