A Brand New Banger From One Of Our Favorite DJs
by Tom PryorEach week Nat Geo Music scours the far reaches of the internet to bring you the coolest new music videos from around the globe.
This week we look no further than our backyard, for a brand new video from one of our favorite NYC-based DJs, Nickodemus.
For those unfamiliar with Nickodemus' globetrotting sound, he's been mixing and mashing up global grooves since 1996 when he got his start as the resident DJ of NYC's legendary Giant Step & Organic Groove nights. Two years later, he started the long-running Turntables on the Hudson party with partners Mariano & Nappy G on percussion.
With three albums under his belt - Endangered Species (2005), Sun People (2009) & Moon People (2012) - Nickodemus is no stranger to the studio, and his work as a producer has led him to create remixes for everyone from Nina Simone and Billy Holiday and Astor Piazzolla to Alice Russell, Thievery Corporation, Balkan Beat Box, and Quantic.
Nickodemus' third album Moon People was released on June 19th, and features collaborations with Afrika Bambaataa, The Real Live Show, Navegante, Belleruche & many more of the cast from his previous albums. This video, for the song "ALRUCCABAH" was shot in New York City and directed by Gunther Intelmann.
