Video Selecter: Leon Mobley In Africa

Follow The Living Rhythms Tour Of Southern Africa Online

Each week Nat Geo Music scours the far corners of the internet to bring you the coolest new videos from around the globe.

This week we return to The Motherland, where legendary American percussionist Leon Mobley - who's worked with everyone from Michael Jackson, Madonna and Quincy Jones to Carlos Santana, Ben Harper and Damian Marley - is teaming up with the U.S. Department of State and the MIMA music non-profit for the MIMA Living Rhythms Tour, which will take Mobley to Namibia, Malawi, Zambia, South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

While there, Mobley will take part in daily programs that include music workshops for at-risk youth, evening performances at regional music festivals, public master classes and recording sessions with adults, professional musicians and university students. The goal of the Living Rhythms tour is to leave behind self-sustaining "Rhythm Clubs".

The project and tour is being documented by Christoph A. Geiseler, in a series of daily videosthat capture the beauty of local musical cultures in Africa and will inspire an interactive conversation online.

We've posted the first one here, with a link to the others here - enjoy!
