Afrobeat Meets Muppetry On "Dirty Money"
by Tom PryorEach week Nat Geo Music scours the far corners of the internet to bring you the coolest new videos from around the globe.
This week we're psyched to present a brand new video from one of our favorite hometown bands: Brooklyn's original, homegrown Afrobeat collective, Antibalas.
It's been a minute since the band's last proper album, 2007's John McEntire-produced Security, but the group's members have been keeping plenty busy with various side projects - most notably adding some authentic Afrobeat punch to the house band of the hit Broadway musical Fela!.
But recently, like the Superfriends returning to the Hall of Justice, the 12-piece juggernaut has re-assembled in Bushwick's DapTone records studios to record Antiablas, their first new recording in five years.
The six song EP is scheduled for release on August 7th, and, judging by the video for "Dirty Money", it will be as funky, timely and politically explosive as ever. And will possibly include muppets. Or not.
Enjoy!
