Tinariwen Tour U.S. In April
Tuareg Rockers Return to American Stages, Make Coachella Debut
by Tom PryorMalian Tuareg rockers Tinariwen return to North American stages after a long hiatus for a short, 8 city tour this April. Though the group will be performing without founding member Ibrahim Ag Alhabib, the group's U.S. visa issues have been resolved and the band will perform all scheduled dates.
Fresh off a UK tour with with folk/electronica group Tunng, the North African guitar slingers will mark their first major U.S. festival date on April 18 at California's prestigious Coachella festival. Other dates include New York, Chicago and Miami's new Heineken TransAtlantic Festival.
Fans outside of the tour cities can experience their live show in the new concert DVD Live in London. Tinariwen will also be profiled in the Al Jazeera documentary Music of Resistance. Their widely acclaimed 2007 album Aman Iman has also been reissued on vinyl.
