Vieux Farka Touré & Idan Raichel Announce New Album, Tour
The Tel Aviv Session Due Out This March
The growing friendship of Vieux Farka Touré of Mali and Idan Raichel from Israel, was forged from a chance encounter at a German airport. It led to a performance at the Tel Aviv Opera House in November 2010. After that remarkable concert, Vieux and Idan, joined by Israeli bassist Yossi Fine and Malian calabash player Souleymane Kane, spent an afternoon jamming in a small intimate studio in Tel Aviv. The resulting recording - acoustic, spontaneous, entirely improvised, and stunningly beautiful is the foundation for their debut album The Tel Aviv Session, due out on March 27 [Cumbancha].
Idan, Vieux, Yossi and Souleymane improvised a masterful selection of songs that encompass the unbridled creativity and inspired collaboration of these four brilliant musicians. With additional contributions by a number of special guests, the final result is an album that will bring to mind classics such as Talking Timbuktu by Ali Farka Touré with Ry Cooder, Keith Jarrett's The Köln Concert or Vincent Segal and Ballake Sissoko's acclaimed Chamber Music.
The Touré-Raichel Collective will be showcasing their music with a North American tour that kicks off in New York on April 13th and touches down in Boston, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Chicago, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Vancouver.
