Stern Grove Festival Announces 2006 Lineup
San Francisco Free Summer Concert Series Now In 69th Year
by Tom PryorSan Francisco's venerable Stern Grove Festival summer concert series announced its lineup for the 2006 season earlier this week. The 69th season of the festival will present ten free concerts, which are scheduled to include several world music acts, including Brazilian crooner Seu Jorge, Malian duo Amadou & Mariam and Hawaiian vocal ensemble Makaha Sons.
The festival will also include a variety of Latin and American roots acts, including New York salseros Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Latin rockers Ozomatli, Latin ska outfit Ska Cubano, zydeco ensemble Geno Delafose & French Rockin' Boogie, New Orleans big band The Rebirth Brass Band and gospel legend Mavis Staples.
The Festival also will present innovative education programs for kids, pre-concert talks, and other activities in the recently renovated Sigmund Stern Grove. The concerts are scheduled to run every Sunday from June 18 through August 20, 2006. For information on scheduling, tickets and concert updates, consult the festival's website.
