SambaSunda To Make First US Appearance Ever In Chicago

SambaSunda Will Headline Concert In Music Without Borders Series

Chicago, IL continues its Music Without Borders series, intended to celebrate world music, with Indonesian group SambaSunda's U.S. debut. During the fourth concert of the six concert series, SambaSunda will perform a free show in Chicago's Millennium Park.

SambaSunda falls into both the traditional folk and pop categories. The 17-piece orchestra is a traditional gamelan orchestra, which uses such traditional Indonesian instruments as xylophones, drums, gongs and other metal percussion. Yet Ismet Ruchimat, the group's composer, works the traditional instruments to produce a fresh, modern sound.
