Salif Keita to Release New Album

Malian singer Salif Keita's newest album, M'bemba, is scheduled to hit American stores on June 20th, according to his label Decca Records. The new disc is a follow-up to his Grammy nominated 2002 release, Moffou.

Over his 35 year career, Keita has emerged as one of Mali's best-known artists, and has been dubbed "The Golden Voice of Africa." Keita, who is descended from Malian nobility, spurned tradition to pursue a career in music, first lending his voice to the Super Rail Band in the late 1960s. Keita, who is albino, also overcame prejudice to become a well-loved figure on the Malian music scene. His international recordings include collaborations with Carlos Santana and Youssou N'Dour.

On M'bemba, Keita is joined by Malian musicians Mama Sissoko on ngoni and Toumani Diabate on kora, as well as Jamaican reggae artist Buju Banton.
