Nat Geo Music TV Debuts In The U.S.

Late Night Music Blocs

NATGEO CHANNEL HEATS UP LATE NIGHT WITH MUSIC PROGRAMMING ALL DURING JULY

Offerings from International Sister Network "Nat Geo Music"
Perfect For Night Owls and DVRs

(Washington, D.C., May XX, 2008) In a world growing ever smaller, but still divided in so many ways, it is music that provides a universal language. For the month of July, National Geographic Channel (NGC) will take viewers on a musical journey around the world, celebrating diversity and connecting viewers with other cultures. Beginning June 30th, NGC will broadcast late night programming from 3am-6amET/midnight-3amPT culled from its international sister network Nat Geo Music. NGC's one-month-sample is intended to showcase the scope of original music programming being produced by National Geographic for its international channel. This repurposed content is the latest reflection of the increasing global synergies and efficiencies following the appointment last year of David Haslingden as CEO of both NGC and NGCI.

A perfect alternative for night owls and those inclined to record the programming block on DVR to watch at their leisure, NGC's broadcast of Nat Geo Music will encompass music videos, concerts, interviews and documentaries with a focus on stories that make music a vehicle for a better understanding and appreciation of today's global community. An alternative to the mainstream, Nat Geo Music is progressive and experimental, highlighting ways in which local sounds are evolving to influence artists from different backgrounds and places. Nat Geo Music was launched as a 24-hour music channel in October 2007 to 4.2 million subscribers in Italy, as one of National Geographic Channels International's programming services and has since expanded in Portugal and throughout Latin & South America.

Along with major label partnerships, Nat Geo Music has also secured deals with prominent independent labels and acclaimed artists. The schedule will integrate music videos with short clips that examine and celebrate the cultures behind the music.

Scheduling blocks include:
PLACE JAM – focusing on music from a specific country
WE LOVE… – dedicated to artists and genres that we love (e.g. We Love Reggae, We Love Caetano Veloso)
MUSIC NOMAD – programming connecting the spirit of traveling to music
GEO SESSIONS – intimate acoustic performances and interviews with top musicians including Ben Harper, K'naan, Michael Franti and Aterciopelados
FUSION – music videos of all genres from around the globe
