"Moving" Earth Day Video

Javier Bardem, Juanes, Juan Luis Guerra and more team up with Spanish popster Macaco for this whimsical green message.

Spanish rocker Macaco (pictured) approached National Geographic two years ago because He wanted to produce a music video for his song "Mama Tierra" using images from our video library. Macaco's environmental message resonated well so we jumped at the opportunity and collaborated on this video.

To celebrate Earth Day 2009 we got back in touch with Macaco and both sides wanted to do something a little bigger. Macaco called on some of his friends and we reached out to some of ours, and before we knew it we had lined up an all-star cast eager to support our simple message: "What you do counts." With colorful graphics we embellish goofy dancing from stars like Academy Award-winning actor Javier Bardem, Colombian rocker Juanes, Spanish pop star Bebe, Brazilian musician Carlinhos Brown, Grammy-winner Juan Luis Guerra, and others.

Macaco sings about how in an environmental movement each individual's actions combine to make a difference: "Murmullos se unen forman gritos, juntos somos evolución – Murmurs unite to form shouts, together we are evolution."
