Latin Alternative Music Conference Celebrates 10th Anniversary In New York

Juana Molina, Curumin, Federico Aubele, Los Amigos Invisibles And More Announced For LAMC 2009 Lineup

The Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) returns to New York to celebrate it's 10th anniversary from July 7th - 11th. The five-day conference provides networking opportunities with the Latin Alternative scene's leading artists, label executives, journalists, marketers, managers, retailers and programmers, making it the most extensive conference to date.

This year's recently-announced lineup includes Central Park SummerStage and Celebrate Brooklyn sets from Brazilian samba-funk artist Curumin, Argentine electro-cumbia collective Zizek, Argentine rock icons Los Fabulosos Cadillacs and Colombian alt-rock heavyweights Aterciopelados (see complete lineup below).

With past conferences averaging more than 1,250 music industry attendees and 25,000 concert fans each year LAMC bills itself as "the biggest event in the world for cutting-edge Latin music" and "features leading artists as well as many of the music industry's most prominent decision-makers, and is considered a must play event for developing and established acts alike".

"Pioneering and inventive events like the annual Latin Alternative Music Conference are reasons why New York City remains the cultural capital of the world," said Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. "Through the work of the Latin Media and Entertainment Commission, New York has been able to attract and retain major Latin events that are part of the reason that people want to keep coming to New York City. We are proud to showcase the talent and rich diversity of Nueva York, and look forward to another successful LAMC."

Their slot will be filled by Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Calle 13. "We tried and tried [to reschedule]," Los Fabulosos stated in a press release, "but at the end of the day, it was just not financially possible to fly to New York City for one show. The band is just as, if not more, bummed than anyone who wanted to be there. The Hammerstein show in New York this past April was a wonderful experience and we thank all of those who sold it out. Los Fabulosos will be coming back to New York in September."
