Jamaican legends Ernest Ranglin & Cedric Brooks To Perform at Harlem Stage
In Search of The Lost Riddim: Jamaican Jazz Fusion event to bring together several generations of top Jamaican talent
by Tom PryorSeveral generations of internationally renowned Jamaican musicians will come together on Thursday, February 26 for The In Search of The Lost Riddim: Jamaican Jazz Fusion concernt at New York City's Harlem Stage at Aaron Davis Hall. This landmark event, co-presented with the Columbia/Harlem Jazz Project celebrates the many influences of world music on jazz, and the impact of jazz on the development of Jamaican popular music.
The spectacular evening features guitarist Ernest Ranglin (pictured), acclaimed for helping to give birth to ska and for his magnificent ability to blend jazz and reggae. Joining Ranglin are Douglas Ewart, the multi-instrumentalist and visual artist, whose superb playing weaves together jazz with contemporary classical music and Caribbean folkloric music; and saxophonist Cedric "IM" Brooks, whose artful jazz combines such musical forms as calypso, funk, rhumba, junkunoo, ska, and disco.
Also featuring Orville Hammond (piano), Wayne Batchelor (string bass), Desmond Jones (drums), Larry McDonald (conga). The passionate and accomplished playing of these jazz greats shines through in this remarkable concert, curated by distinguished cultural historian Herbie Miller, the director/curator designate of Jamaica's National Music Museum.
