Richard Gere, Tom Waits and Phillip Glass Collaborate With Dalai Lama on Healing the Divide

Live Recording Benefits Tibetan Health Initiative

On July 30th, 2007, Epitaph records will release Healing the Divide: A Concert For Peace and Reconciliation, a collaboration between Richard Gere, Tom Waits and Phillip Glass, with narration by the Dalai Lama. The recording is culled from a 2003 benefit concert in New York City and will benefit Gere's non-profit organization, Healing the Divide.

The concert, held on September 21, 2003 at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, featured initimate, original collaborations between artists including Waits, Glass, Anoushka Shankar, the Gyuto Tantric Choir, Nawang Khechog, Kronos Quartet, R. Carlos Nakai, and Foday Musa Suso. The album will feature nine of these collaborations, with a narration of the event by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, His Holiness the Dalai Lama

According to a press release, one hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of Healing the Divide CD will be applied to the organization's Tibetan Health Initiative. All of the artists, Epitaph Records, and Healing the Divide are donating all their proceeds from sales to Healing the Divide's Tibetan Health Initiative, a program that provides health insurance and medical care to impoverished Tibetan Buddhist monks and nuns living in refugee settlements. Each CD purchase provides one year of health insurance.
