Gerardo Núñez To Headline Two Concerts In Chicago, IL

Gerardo Núñez To Appear Twice At Chicago's Millennium Park

Flamenco guitarist Gerardo Núñez is set to headline two concerts at Millennium Park in Chicago, IL. For the first concert, entitled "Flamenco on Venetian Night," Núñez will play with the Grant Park Orchestra and guest conductor Joana Carneiro, an up and coming conductor from the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Also on the program is Carmen Cortés, a celebrated flamenco dancer who has been performing since the 1980s. This concert will take place on Saturday, July 28th.

Núñez's second concert will be part of the Music Without Borders series, in which musicians of all styles come together to form a unique sound. In this instance, the Gerardo Núñez Flamenco Ensemble will contrast and fuse their sound with those of the oud, violin and sitar. The two artists collaborating with Núñez's group for this concert will be Simon Shaheen and Nishat Khan.

Shaheen is a Palestinian musician who was awarded the National Heritge Award at the White House in 1994 for fusing traditional Arabic sounds with Western influences in his oud and violin jazz. Khan has played with such musical icons as B.B. King, Eric Clapton, and Carlos Santana, and is one of the most well-known sitar players in the world. Núñez, Shaheen and Khan will collaborate on July 29th.
