Fishbone Documentary Makes Broadcast Premiere

Everyday Sunshine To Air On PBS This Month

It's no secret that we love Fishbone here at Nat Geo Music - back in the '80s, these L.A. ska-funk-punk pioneers blazed a path for the kind of multicultural musical mashups that we love today. And those of you who followed our coverage of the 2011 SXSW Festival on Twitter and Facebook know that we really loved Everyday Sunshine: The Story Of Fishbone, the first biopic about this seminal '80s alternative band.

Directed by Lev Anderson and Chris Metzler, Everyday Sunshine tells the story of one of the greatest bands to never break big, but whose unforgettable live performances ahead-of-their-time music, and refusal to conform to black musical stereotypes made them one of the most influential bands to emerge from L.A.'s '80s alternative scene.

Narrated, naturally, by Laurence Fisburne, the film features extensive interviews with the band itself and with dozens of musicians who played with and were influenced by them, including Gwen Stefani (No Doubt), Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Ice-T (rapper), Perry Farrell (Jane's Addiction, Porno For Pyros), Questlove (The Roots), and more.

And now you don't have to haul yourself out to film festivals to catch it anymore, since Everyday Sunshine makes its broadcast premiere on Sunday, January 22nd as part of public television's AfroPoP documentary series (check your local listings).

And if you miss it on TV, the film will also be released exclusively on iTunes on February 1st and on DVD February 22nd.

Here's a taste below - don't sleep on this amazing biopic of an amazing band - and don't forget that Fishbone themselves are currently on tour in support of their new Crazy Glue EP.

Don't sleep!
