Fes Festival of World Sacred Music Announces 2006 Lineup
by Tom PryorThe Fes Festival of World Sacred Music, held annually in the city of Fes, Morrocco, recently announced its lineup for 2006. The annual festival, now in its twelfth year, will be held from June 210 in the Medina of Fesa UNESCO world heritage site.
The festival theme for 2006 is "Harmonies," and this year the festival will include performances from Pakistan's Abida Parveen, Tibet's Yungchen Lhamo, Azerbaïdjan's Aygun Baylar and headliner Salif Keita. The Malian singer will be premiering new material from his upcoming album M'bemba, which will be released internationally on June 20th.
The festival will also include performances from local Moroccan artists, including El Boussairi and various Sufi brotherhoods as part of the "Sufi Nights" all-night performance series. In addition to the musical program the festival will host panel discussions, lectures and a film series.
