Femi Kuti Cancels North American Tour
Nigerian bandleader cites illness.
by Tom PryorIn an annoucement released earlier today, Nigerian afrobeat bandleader Femi Kuti formally cancelled his upcoming U.S. and Canadian tour, scheduled for January 2009.
The cancellation of the tour follows on the heels of Kutii's cancellation of key dates, including NYC's GlobalFest, earlier this week. The tour was scheduled in support of the release of Day By Day, his first album of new material in seven years. Kuti is the son of the late Nigerian afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti.
According to Femi's management, a comprehensive US and Canadian summer tour will be announced shortly. Details for all future tour dates will be posted at: www.myspace.com/femikuti
In the interim, ticket holders should seek refunds from the place of purchase.
