Carnival Brazil!
Nat Geo Music presents five of our favorite videos that capture the spirit of Brazilian carnival.
We love a good party here at Nat Geo Musicand nobody can throw a party to match Carnival in Brazil. From the spectacular costumed parades in Rio's world famous Sambadromo to the massive trio-elétrico moblie sound systems and thundering percussion bloques of Bahia to the swinging sounds of frevo and the maracatu in Pernambuco, Carnival rivals futebol as Brazil's national obsession.
In the spirit of Carnival, Nat Geo Music presents five of our favorite Brazilian videos that truly capture the sound and vision of Carnival.
1. Carlinhos Brown & DJ Dero: "Maria Caipirinha"
Irrepressible Brazilian singer and bandleader Carlinhos Brown (pictured) holds it down for his hometown of Salvador with DJ Dero on this contemporary Carnival classic.
2. Ivete Sangalo & Gilberto Gil: "Ceu Da Boca (Live)"
One of Brazil's best-selling artists, Ivete Sangalo, teams up with Gilberto Gil for a live performance of their 2004 hit.
3. Max De Castro: "A Historia Da Morena Nua Que Abalou As Estruturas Do Esplendor Do Carnaval"
Max de Castro lays down a funky, chilled out Sao Paulo groove on this clip from his 2002 album Orchestra Klaxon.
4. Sergio Mendes & The Black Eyes Peas: "Mas Que Nada"
Brazilian composer Sergio Mendes has been making international hits since the 1960s. In 2006 he teamed up with the Black Eyed Peas to record a new version of one of his bossa nova classics.
5. Paula Lima: "Quero Ver Voce No Baile"
Sao Paulo's Paula Lima plays music influenced by bossa nova, samba, Brazilian soul, and international funk. Quero ver voce no baile is Portuguese for "I want to see you at the dance."
