Each week Nat Geo Music scours the far reaches of the internet to bring you the coolest new videos from around the globe, but this week we have an extra-special treat: the world premiere of "Holocene", the latest video from indie rock icon Bon Iver.

Taken from Bon Iver's self-titled follow-up album to 2008's acclaimed For Emma, Forever Ago, the video for "Holocene" was shot entirely in Iceland by director Nabil Elderkin.

"[Iceland] is the most magical place in the world," Elderkin told us via email. "It looked like Mars to me, so I always wanted to shoot there. When Bon Iver gave me the reins on this video, I knew it had to be filmed there."

Watching the video, it's easy to agree with Elderkin, who shot some stunning footage of a young Icelandic boy traversing the island's volcanic landscape and shoreline; using Iceland's dramatic geological beauty to conjure the dramatic from the mundane.

While he was reluctant to give up exact shooting locations to National Geographic, Elderkin told us that "it was filmed on the east side of the island, in the region of Vik".

As for Bon Iver, Justin Vernon and eight-piece band just wrapped up a summer tour in support of Bon Iver - which debuted at #2 on the Billboard top 200 when it debuted in June. But don't worry if you missed them - Vernon and the lads are already
gearing up for a major fall tour set to kick off in Minneapolis, MN on September 11th.
