Antibalas Return To Brooklyn
Afrobeat Apostles Announce Monthlong Residency At Brooklyn's Knitting Factory
After dedicating the last three years providing the musical foundation and pulse for the latest off- and on-Broadway sensation, Fela!, Antibalas brings the party back to its Brooklyn roots for a weekly residency at the iconic music venue, the Knitting Factory. The concerts-to be held December 3rd, 10th, 17th, New Year's Eve, and extending into January, 2010-promise to hearken back to Antibalas' legendary Africalia! dance parties at Tribeca's now-defunct No Moore club, and further cement the band's' irrepressible reputation as an unstoppable live music juggernaut.
In addition to Antibalas' enduring Fela! collaboration with the highly-acclaimed choreographer Bill T. Jones, the band has also been busy teaming up with a who's who of pop music's upper ranks. Whether in concert, on television or in the recording studio with a diverse range of artists such as Public Enemy, the Roots, Paul Simon, and TV on the Radio, to Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Wale and Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Antibalas continues to flex its flexible musical arsenal.
Despite such ambitious endeavors, however, Antibalas' first love has always been afrobeat, the unique genre of music spawned by Nigeria's Fela Kuti. Since Kuti's death in 1997, Antibalas has become the indisputable leader in reintroducing afrobeat to an international audience.
