Introducing AfriPOP!
New Destination Site For Contemporary African Culture
by Tom PryorEvery now and then we like to take some time out and give some love to all the folks out there on the interwebs who are doing the kind of work we love-and one of our favorite sites is the recently re-launched AfriPOP! (not to be confused with the venerable Afropop Worldwide, who also rock our world...).
A desitination site for all aspects of African pop culture, AfriPOP! really shines when it comes to covering the generation of new African musicians-as this short interview with South African songstress (and Nat Geo Music favorite) Simphiwe Dana attests.
But the site is much more than music, so we asked our friend and AfriPOP editor Mawuse Ziegbe to give us a quick run down of everything going on there, and here was her response:
"Launched in 2008, AfriPOP! is the ultimate online destination for the latest new trends in African music, African fashion, and film. Whether spotlighting emerging talent or the latest in art, politics and commerce, AfriPOP! delivers fresh content specifically geared to sophisticated Afropolitans all over the globe. We speak to an audience who grew up with African values but aren't afraid to think of themselves as global citizens. Profiling African movers and shakers like Senegalese icon Baaba Maal, Nigerian singer-songwriter Ayo, Ghanaian star Wanlov The Kubolor and folksy songstress Nneka and more, AfriPOP! is also the place to check out Africans who are changing the world through their art. AfriPOP! is the go-to insider guide for engaging commentary on what young Africans (on the continent and elsewhere) are talking about."
But don't take our word for it-check it out for yourself!
