“AXF2” North America’s Only Festival Devoted To African Xylophones

This week New York City will host the second annual African Xylophone Festival–the only festival celebrating Xylophone music from across the entire African continent. Presented by Jumbie Records, in association with the 92nd Street Y and Columbia University, the festival will span two nights of concerts at New York nightspot Makor and three days of workshops at Makor and Columbia University. The events are planned for May 5th–7th.

This year's festival will spotlight xylophone traditions from Ghana, Mali, Uganda and Mozambique, as well as related traditions from Guinea and Uganda. Performances are scheduled from the Bernard Woma Trio, Famoro Dioubate, Dallam-Dougou, Imaginary Homeland, Nora Balaban, Biakuye Unity Ensemble and others. Master classes, children's sessions and a "Xylophone Summit" are also planned for the event.
