Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch Develops Cancer

Tour Dates Cancelled & New Album Release Postponed For Surgery

Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys announced that he was diagnosed with cancer in a video posted to the band's website earlier today. Yauch, aka MCA, stated said he was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his left parotid, or salivary, gland. The cancer is not life-threatening or expected to affect Yauch's vocal chords.

According to a press statement for the Beastie Boys' label, EMI records, the group will cancel upcoming summer tour dates so that Yauch can undergo surgery and recover. The Beasties will also delay the release of their new album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1.

"I apologize to everybody for anyone who's made plans or was psyched to come to these shows that are coming up and I just apologize fir anyone who's put themselves out in terms of their schedules or whatever and we'll be back doing this soon ?," Yauch said in the video statement.

"'Our thoughts, love and prayers are with Adam Yauch, his family and the Beastie Boys," the statement from EMI says. "The most important thing is to allow Adam to focus on staying healthy. We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery."
