The Very Best & More at Le Poisson Rouge
New York Night Spot Serves Up New World Music All Summer
by Tom PryorNew York nightspot Le Poisson Rouge-ensconced in the same, venerable Bleecker St. address that once hosted the legndary Village Gate-has emerged as one of the hottest venues for new world music in the city. Since its opening in 2008, the multimedia performance space has presented an impressive roster of international artists-including Rokia Traore, BLK JKS, El Guincho, and more-as well as an electic assortment of jazz, experimental, new music and other alternative artists.
And this summer is no different, with upcoming performances from Peru's Novalima, Brooklyn's own Chicha Libre, and the UK-Malawi, Afro-electro-pop sensation The Very Best [pictured].
Here are some of Nat Geo Music's top picks for upcoming shows at LPR:
7/16: Novalima and Chicha Libre w/ R-Tronika
7/18: The Very Best (Esau Mwamwaya and Radioclit) w/ Dragons of Zynth , Que Bajo?! , DJ Uproot Andy , Geko Jones , Zuzuka Poderosa , DJ Supervixen and Açai Girl
8/13: Midival Punditz and Karsh Kale
