Global Drum Project is the first collaboration from Grateful Dead's Mickey Hart and Indian tabla legend Zakir Hussain since their Grammy-winning Planet Drum release in 1991. Some of the world's finest drum talent assembled for that collaboration, including Nigerian legend Babatunde Olatunji, among many others.The album won the very first Grammy for world music,and spent an unprecedented 26 weeks at #1 on the Billboard world music chart, and continues to sell as a perennial favorite. Now, 15 years later, the musical partnership of Hart and Hussain are joined by Taufiq Qureshi on percussion and vocals, Niladari Kumar on sitar, Dilshad Khan on sarangi, and the late, great Olatunji in sampled vocals from the original sessions.
