Review:
From Sao Paulo, Brazil, multi-instrumentalists Mauricio Tagliari, Luca Raele and Guga Stroeter have been playing together, under the name Nouvelle Cuisine, since 1989. For "Free Bossa", their first album, they have dropped the culinary connection and present themselves simply as Nouvelle. They are joined by singer Estela Cassilatti, Marinho Andreotti on double bass and a host of drummers and percussionists Nouvelle has worked with in recent years. This album reflects the rich musical influence of Brazilian musicians such as Joao Gilberto, Hermeto Pascoal and Egberto Gismonti, as well as the giants of jazz: Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy, Ornette Coleman and John Coltrane. Hence "Free Bossa" - swinging, but cool; hot, but always elegant. — CalabashMusic.com |
